Duaner Sanchez agreed to an $850,000, one-year contract with the Mets and settled his arbitration case. He gets no pay raise. The Mets still have Ryan Church, Aaron Heilman, Oliver Perez and Jorge Sosa who are eligible for arbitration. Arbitration hearings cases start February 1st.
Sanchez now must prove he's healthy! He has not pitched in the regular season since his July 2006 taxi accident. But before the accident Sanchez was one of the best setup men in baseball posting a 2.60 ERA in 2006, and helping the Mets roll into the playoff in 2006.
As a team the Mets bullpen was ranked 2nd in the league in 2006 with a 3.25 ERA. In 2007 without Sanchez, the Mets bullpen fell to 15th with 3.99 ERA.
Lets hope he can return to his old form, as he becomes another injury risk for the Mets.
